Jasper Jones free essay sample
He discovers that Corrigan has small town morality and relies solely on rumour, Corrigan is also a very racist town and are quick to judge the Lu family, who are Vietnamese, and Jasper Jones, who is half indigenous. He later discovers that Corrigan is hypocrisy and award the prestigious jobs to the most undeserving people. From the moment Jasper Jones knocked on Charliesââ¬â¢ window, Charlie discovers everything he thought was right and wrong, was no longer as black and white as he thought. The first time Jasper knocks on Charliesââ¬â¢ window, after Charlie is shown Lauraââ¬â¢s body, Charlie is shocked to find Jasper all bruised and beaten up. But what shocked him most, was that it wasnââ¬â¢t just a regular beating, it was the local Sharif and the mayor, Lauraââ¬â¢s father, who had physically abused Jasper. This would be the first time Charlie questions his thoughts of right and wrong. We will write a custom essay sample on Jasper Jones or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Charliesââ¬â¢ indecision and confusion is shown through the metaphor of a snowdome : ââ¬Å"How strange and abandoned and unsettled I am. Like a snowdome paperweight thatââ¬â¢s been shakenâ⬠¦ Everything in my world that was steady and sure and sturdy has been shaken out of place, and now its drifting and swirling back down in a confetti of debris. Even though Charlie is confused, he has a gut feeling that helps lead the way, ââ¬Å"They asked me if Iââ¬â¢d been with Jasper Jones/I was terrified, nut something kicked in me. I discovered a gift for lies. â⬠As Charlie moves from innocence to experience, he recognises Corrigan for what it truly is, and discovers the obvious display of small town morality. This is demonstrated when Corriganââ¬â¢s lack of tolerance and understanding lead to the myth that forms around Mad Jack Lionel, ââ¬Å"But as the myth grows in girth, so too does our fear of the mad killer hidden in his home. This is evident also, when Charlie co mments that, ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s hard to understand. The folks who watch Jasper play, who barrack for him like he was one of their own, are the same ones who might cut their eyes at him should he walk their way a few hours after the game. â⬠He recognises the same quality in the town when his is surprised that the townââ¬â¢s people are supporting Jeffrey Lu because he is winning the cricket game for them, which Charlie recognises is different from their normal behaviour when they obviously reject him. When Charlie is drawn into the tragedy he discovers the racial prejudice that is present in Corrigan. This is evident when Jeffreyââ¬â¢s cricket skills are not recognised as he is from Vietnam, ââ¬Å"Jeffreyââ¬â¢s parents are Vietnamese, so heââ¬â¢s ruthlessly bullied and belted around by the boys at schoolâ⬠¦ But he takes it all astonishingly well, which has always eased my guilt given that Iââ¬â¢m never brave enough to intervene. Jeffrey is unflappable. â⬠The towns racism is also shown towards the Lu family when their garden is destroyed, ââ¬Å"Something is happening outside Jeffreyââ¬â¢s houseâ⬠¦ I see four men destroying An Luââ¬â¢s gardenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ The town of Corrigan is not only racist towards the Lu family, but they are also racist towards Jasper Jones, the half-cast. Jasper Jones has a terrible reputation in Corrigan. Heââ¬â¢s a Thief, a Thug, a Truant. Heââ¬â¢s lazy and unreliable. Heââ¬â¢s a feral and an orphan, or as good asâ⬠¦ Jasper Jones is the example of where poor aptitude and attitude will lead. â⬠When Charlie is confronted by Jasper Jones injuries, he is exposed to the essential hypocrisy of the townââ¬â¢s people. This is demonstrated when Jasper admits the truth about Lauraââ¬â¢s dad, the Shire President, ââ¬Å"Mate Lauraââ¬â¢s old man is the worst out of the whole lot/Butâ⬠¦ But heââ¬â¢s the shire president/Itââ¬â¢s justâ⬠¦ itââ¬â¢s hard for me to believe, is all. It is also evident when Jasper confesses who had beaten him up to Charlie, ââ¬Å"So who has done this to your face then? /Sarge. The local constabulary. Charlie. â⬠It is not only the prestigious people in the town who show hypocrisy, but also Charlieââ¬â¢s mother. His mother disciplines him and tells him to never tell lies or be untruthful when she is having an affair. She tells Charlie not to sneak out when she is in fact sneaking out herself and lies about where she is going. Clearly Charlie changes during the course of the novel. He changes from a young man, secure in the knowledge of what is right and wrong, to a mature adolescent who has a new perspective on the town of Corrigan. As Jasper Jones forces Charlie to look at things from a new perspective, he discovers a whole new attitude of what life in Corrigan really is, and as he navigates the small town morality, racism and hypocrisy, he changes his perspective, and ultimately, who he is as a person. Silveyââ¬â¢s metaphor of the snowdome is proven correct, as he goes from a young man, to confused, and the coming out as a mature adolescent.

Global Race for Energy
Global Race for Energy Introduction The struggle for energy ownership, control, and power among the rich states in the world is currently intensive. Examples of these energy-producing substances include oil and gas, which have become a major topic for debate all over the world. The reason why this war is taking place could be the speed by which the scarcity of these energy substances is extending worldwide.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Global Race for Energy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This scarcity is also introducing a different and new world form, such that, while some nations are fighting for energy power, others are in the race trying to secure the energy. For example, states like the US and EU nations have started to be involved in discussions, with the main objective being to address international future for energy and its advantages. Indeed, debates concerning the current and future energy requirement are among the challeng ing issues in the contemporary world. Some of the key supply areas for oil and gas today; and how is that geography changing These areas are the key points in which the whole issue is surrounding. Saudi Arabia is the largest producer of oil; the U.S comes second in production but the highest in terms of consumption (Mtsiva, 2) and China is the second highest consumer of energy after the U.S. This seems to be the initiation mark of the global race for un-renewable sources of energy (Belkin, 5). This production and consumption has however caused changes in geographical marketing and supply. For example, the U.S market was left depending on minor oil producing companies when bigger oil companies turned their businesses abroad, looking for larger market and suitable place for their investment (Mtsiva, 3) During the times of ancient world war, most of the nations depended primarily on market capacities of private companies and international oil companies for sufficient supply of energy. However, this is not true in contemporary world because the high rates of economic growth have triggered better policymaking, especially in high population countries like India, Brazil, and China. Other major predominant suppliers of energy to the European Union (EU) nations are Russia, India, Norway, Middle East, and North Africa (Cabral, Para 4). How do the industrial states work to secure oil and gas supplies through non-market means? This energy business has suffered security risk and scares in major industrial states in the past. In such tense conditions, agreement on better security agenda for energy sector becomes difficult, especially when some states decide to pursue their own interests (Korrin and luft, 335).Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More There is a probability of energy-hungry nations to focus on their own economy, security, and environmental concerns in the process of securing energy (Korrin and luft, 357). As it has become more difficult to obtain oil and gas, countries are trying to create more energy sources other than geographical varieties (Korrin and luft, 337) Some countries like the U.S have developed a policy that aims at maintaining national security in the oil market. A national security is a form of social cost that can justify government actions in oil markets but not loan guarantees on economic grounds (Mtsiva, 78). Moreover, a policy concerned with tax incentives has enabled reduction of tax penalties and expansion of oil and gas tax incentives (Mtsiva, 79). Some countries have tried to form collaborative partnership; for example, partnership between China and the U.S has brought a number of benefits between the two nations. Already, a ten-year plan was set up in 2007 by top government and economic officials between the two countries, that is, the U.S Department of Energy and Chinaââ¬â¢s National Development an d Reform commission (Cabral, Para 13). In the EU nation, energy security increase has been minimized by occasional debate on liberalization and market integration in their agenda. The commission has decided on development of Europe-wide internal market for gas, network interconnection, and assessment of market (Belkin, 25) The effect on countries supplying oil and gas do they prosper or suffer? Most of the countries supplying these sources of energy are countries with good economic standards like the U.S and the EU nations, although there are some countries that are still struggling in economic issues but still can supply energy. These countries have already established themselves in terms of collaborative partnership, policies transformation, and procurement of energy. Therefore, subjectively, if a country engages with another nation in securing oil market, then that country is not suffering, as this collaboration brings a sort of socioeconomic sustenance. However, if any nation p uts its concerns alone, then eventually it will start suffering due to lack of foreign investment (Cabral, Para16). Conclusion The whole worldââ¬â¢s nations need to join hands together in solving this major crisis in energy market. If each country creates policies that control its energy market in production, supply, and consumption strategies, then insecurity will definitely be eliminated in the market. The engagement in collaboration and networking is also a good idea in energy market. Nevertheless, foreign investment and interrelation between different countries helps to reduce the economic gap between the rich and poor countries.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Global Race for Energy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Belkin, Paul. ââ¬Å"The European Unionââ¬â¢s Energy Security Challenges.â⬠CRS report for Congress, 2008. Week 5 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1
Week 5 - Essay Example economies are known to tax her citizens heavily, though the French economy is also known to exhibit high spending when compared to the German economy. A considerable percentage of French industries are nationalized, while most of the major corporations in Germany are privately owned. The two economies also differ when it comes to their trends in growth, for the German economy has been registering steadfast growth over the past twenty years while the French economy has been exhibiting slow and a somewhat declining growth (Gregory et al, 2004). Both Germany and Britain are key players of international trade. Half of Britainââ¬â¢s GDP for example comes from both imports and exports. That notwithstanding, I presume true the fact that international trade is more important to the German economy than it is for Britain. My argument is based on the fact that Germany has overtime ben known as one of the worldââ¬â¢s leading exporters, and has continuously maintained surplus trading with her partners (Buell, 2015). Most of Germanyââ¬â¢s trade partners are EU members, and analysts hold the opinion that well over a fifth of the German labor market, depend on international trade. Germany majorly exports automobile, chemicals, food products and electrical equipment. At the same time, it imports raw materials and semi-finished products. The overall impact of the European Union on the German economy has been positive, as the Eurozone has made the German economy stronger and highly stable. This is majorly because Germany has registered high economic growth since the EU came into play, with its real gross domestic product standing at in excess of 37 billion Euros annually over the last twenty years (Buell, 2015). At the same time, German exports have become more competitive within the Eurozone than when the country was using its own currency; a fact that has made Germany more dependable within the Eurozone. Nonetheless, events such as frequent bailouts of poor performing economies have

Timeline of Historical Events (Prehistoric to Postmodern Era) Essay Example for Free
Timeline of Historical Events (Prehistoric to Postmodern Era) Essay Timeline of Historical Events (Prehistoric to Postmodern Era) The events industry started to take shape from the prehistoric age where the most primitive forms of human activity took place, following an enabling experience from evolutionary patterns (Goldblatt 2010, p12). As widely held in historical theories, invention as a factor of necessity implies that the origin of most creative ways of making life easy began as supported by realization that man needed them to survive in the changing life experiences. Firstly, the prehistoric era events included the emergence of Homo sapiens sapiens, the man with an enhanced brain activity able to support different high-level primate intelligence chores such as tool making, cultivation of crops, and domestication of animals. In summary, civilization of Europe and Asia contribute the major events that took place with specific account of the UK. Emergence of early industries based on agricultural culture supports the origin of other industries such as metal industry initially targeted at tool making. Demand factors during this era must have been characterized by a food industry such as labor for production (eif 2011, p3). Secondly, the Ancient era advanced needs included record keeping, governance, education and emergence of cities. Demand and supply factors for such activities included food production and education as required by the emergent civilization. Other related ages in succession include Middle Ages, High Medieval, Renaissance and Age of Exploration characterized by political and religious events earlier precipitated in the Ancient Ages. The Modern Era with a cluster of related eras such as Puritan Era, Enlightenment Era, Romantic Era, Petroleum era and High Modern Era characterized a series of events based on innovation, mass industrial production and mass agricultural production. The Postmodern Era beginning in the mid-1900s characterize the information age based on high innovation and intelligent operations in production, education, management and governance, variously referred to as the scientific revolution (Ackermann et al. 2008, pxxx).

Fermi National Accelerator :: physics proton accelerator
During the early 1950's there was a need for a new large accelerator facility in the United States, therefore a group called MURA (Midwestern Universities Research Association) was formed by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission specifically to take on this enormous task. By the early 1960's the accelerator research panel had made several recommendations about the accelerator project. The panel reccomended that four things needed to be constructed to get the project under way. What the panel had suggested was that a super high current accelerator be constructed, a proton accelerator of approximately 200 GeV ( this would be Fermilabs original main ring) be constructed, storage rings needed to be constructed and a design study for an approximately 800 GeV machine needed to be formed. On November 21, 1967 President Lyndon Johnson signed a bill allowing the go ahead of the Fermi National Accelerator and by early 1968 congress approved funding to build the laboratory. In 1967 the Fermilab cost $243 million with an additional $120 million in 1983 to complete the Tevatron. The site chosen by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission was just outside Chicago Illinois in a small town called Weston, Illinois. The first person chosen to take on the complicated task of running the Fermilab was Founding Director Robert R. Wilson, and from the outset Robert committed the laboratory to firm principles of scientific excellence, esthetic beauty, stewardship of the land, fiscal responsibility and equality of opportuniy (Fermi website, http://www.fnal.gov/pub/contact/index.html). What excactly does the Fermilab do you ask? Well in the simplest terms possible the lab studies the tiniest building blocks of matter to learn and understand more about the forces involved in holding them together and the forces that separate them, otherwise known as particle physics. To study these subatomic particles the scientist must smash them together in order to see what comes flying out. One of the most interesting parts about the Fermilab is the immense size of the equipment used to carry out the experiments. The Tevatron is the highest energy particle accelerator in the world. It is located 30 feet below the surface and has a circumference of approximately four miles. The Tevatron uses accelerators that help add energy to the subatomic particles so that they can travel around the four-mile loop 50,000 times a second at a speed of 99.9999 % of light. To help study the collisions there are two collider detectors ( CDF and DZero), each about the size of a four story building.
